Revised Goods and Services Tax rates comes into force

The new rates at which Goods and Services Tax (GST) is to be imposed is now effective from 1st January 2023.

GST is a tax charged on the value of goods and services supplied in the Maldives from 2nd October 2011 onwards under the Goods and Services Tax Act. GST is categorized into two sectors: Tourism Goods and Services Tax and Local Goods and Services Tax.

Following the ratification of the sixth amendment to the Goods and Services Tax Act (Law No: 10/2011), the GST rate has been revised to raise the tax rate of Local Goods and Services Tax from 6% to 8% and, the tax rate Tourism Goods and Services Tax raised from 12% to 16% respectively.

The sixth amendment to Goods and Services Tax Act was signed into law and subsequently published on the Government Gazette on 22nd November 2022.
